Memorial services for Leona Huisenga, 82, were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 6, at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Sibley, with Rev. Larry Laskie officiating.
Interment was in Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, with Jurrens Funeral Home, Sibley, in charge of arrangements.
She died October 1, 2008 after battling Alzheimer's.
Leona R. Huisenga was born October 17, 1925, at Clear Lake, S. Dak., the daughter of Jacob and Johanna (Johnson) Bustad. She attended Sibley Community School and graduated in 1943.
She was married to Robert "Bob" Huisenga on September 4, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She worked as a teller and bookkeeper at 1st National Bank in Sibley for 16 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, active with church choir and women's fellowship. She also was a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary in Sibley.
Survivors are her husband of 60 years, Robert Huisenga, of Sibley; six children: Kirk (Becki) Huisenga of Spirit Lake; Vickie Krogman of Tampa, Fla.; Mark (Teresa) Huisenga of Iowa City; Melinda Huisenga of Morton, Ill.; Amy (Jim) Trewin of Ramsey, Minn.; and Susan (Steve) Potter of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers: Vernon Bustad of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; Jake Jr. Bustad of Cherokee Village, Ariz.; and Joe Bustad of Palm Desert, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Jacob and Johanna Bustad; infant daughter, Lisa Marie Huisenga; daughter-in-law, Candace Clarey Huisenga; granddaughter, Alison Huisenga; two brothers: Eugene Bustad and James Bustad; and a sister, Carolyn Kleve.
