Bertha Frances Smedsrud, 89, of Harmony, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 25, 2011.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Elliota Cemetery in rural Canton.
Bertha was born May 27, 1922, to Palmer and Ada Klingsheim in Rice Lake, Wis. She was a resident of Harmony for the past 65 years. Bertha graduated from Lime Springs (Iowa) High School and attended North Central Bible Institute in Minneapolis. She married Luvern Smedsrud on March 20, 1946, and was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and reading. She will be remembered as a gracious hostess who always welcomed guests.
She is survived by six children, Suzanne (Norman) Foster of Savage, Marsha (Roger) Johnson of Harmony, Robert (Rebecca) Smedsrud of Decorah, Iowa, Mary (Timothy) Chafins of Akron, Ohio, Jeanne (Larry) Burbaugher of Summerville, S.C., and James (Donna) Smedsrud of Milwaukee, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alfred and John Klingsheim; and a sister, Esther Smeton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luvern, a brother, Paul Klingsheim and a son-in-law, Timothy Smith.
Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony is handling the arrangements.
